Introduction – All Credits go to ChatGPT
Nomo Nomo is a playful new Japanese-ish izakaya-style bar located on Commercial Drive, where chef Benedict Lim and team mix comfort and creativity. With just 26 seats, the space feels intimate—dark neutrals, warm walnut tones, quirky Japanese art, and moody lighting set the stage. Their menu features yoshoku dishes (Western-influenced Japanese comfort food) designed for sharing, paired with sake, inventive cocktails, and drinks that invite lingering. It’s casual yet refined, familiar yet full of surprises—definitely one of Vancouver’s most exciting new late-night spots.
@eatswithwendy Checked out new restaurant – Nomonomo at Commercial Drive We sat at the high tops by the storefront window. Heads up: the space is pretty tight, so watch out for people squeezing past behind you! On to the food and drink: ✨Tamago sando with milk bread ✨Prawn toast on a Chinese donut was an interesting twist ✨King salmon & ikura croquette ✨Iberico Tomahawk stole the show—so juicy and tender, honestly the best pork we’ve had in a long time. 🍹 Cocktail: Ume & Mugicha Overall, a fun spot to try if you’re into Japanese fusion and sharing plates!@Nomonomo 📍 Nomonomo 1268 Commercial Dr, Vancouver, BC V5L 3X2 #yvreats #yvrfoodies #yvrfoodieeats #yvrfood #yvrfoodblogger ♬ original sound – eatswithwendy

Menu and Review – Starred = Tried/Reviewed
Ume (Left)
Imagine a classic Old Fashioned and add a few drops of water. That’s how Ume tasted…
Mugicha (Right)
Mugicha was refreshing and may appear interesting to people who haven’t tried honeydew-flavored beverages.
Tamago Sando
Flavor profile was there with the truffle and the crab meat but the chewiness of the toast ruined the dish. We were pretty sure it had to be on the crispy side and it should have been a bit smaller so we can finish it in one bite. The fact that we had to bite twice just made the stale toast stand out even more.
Prawn Toast
Yet another breaded-theme dish. The Chinese donut was supposed to be crunchy but it was stale and chewy (seemed being chewy was a theme at the time too eh?). The jalapenos didn’t add much when we had to focus so much on chewing.
Croquette
The oven is working overtime with this menu because here we are with another bread combination. Maybe we should have been more open minded but this dish just really emphasize how torched salmon and ebiko should just go with sushi rice.
Iberico Tomahawk
Finally something different (but not really?) Flavor was expected of asian grilled pork especially when we can smell five spice powder from afar. We have to give credits where it’s due, the most tender and juicy piece of pork we have ever tasted. This would take almost an hour to cook and it’s expected for any tomahawk. We just think it’s a good practice to let the customers know like every other restaurant who serves tomahawk.

Fun Facts / Things to Know
- Fact 1: They only decided to open because they have delayed way too many times despite not being ready.
- Fact 2: The artworks are all original and on rotations. They are also ridiculously expensive.
- Fact 3: The bartenders are somewhat celebrities themselves as they have awards.

- If you were to be seated in those high top by the storefront window, that would just be sad.
- Everything was too tight and you would need some certification from Worksafe BC because you will be working your palate within a confined space.
- The bar sitting/standing space looks so awkward due to the small separation and you really have to watch out for people walking behind you.
