@eatswithwendy Just checked out a new steakhouse in downtown Vancouver – Handson Steak & Frites. Their signature 6oz tenderloin comes sizzling on a cast iron skillet, so you can flip and finish it just how you like—definitely a fun “hands-on” moment. We started with the beef tartare, then the roasted mushrooms totally stole the show as our favourite side, with the grilled prawns adding a nice surf-and-turf balance. Orion Draft Beer (Left) & Estrella Damm (Right)
We didn’t know what to expect ordering $17 imported beer for the Orion, but it tastes just as similar as the Estrella Damm at $7. Good beers though.
6 Oz Cast Iron Steak Tenderloin
They pre-sear and bring it out on a sizzling hot cast iron skillet, and you will cook them to your liking. It cooks fast, so make sure you pay attention. It was quite tender even though it turned medium after we were done taking pictures. Nothing special in terms of flavors. It was seasoned with salt only it seemed. It comes with pesto-like sauce, which we personally thought was not a good pairing with the steak.
Fries
Good and crispy fries.
Roasted Mushrooms
This was actually the best dish. Flavors were what you would expect and were really well executed. It was even better than Elisa’s version of sauteed mushrooms.
Steak Tartare & Chips
This was not it. The chips were crispy, but the steak tartare was pre-made. We saw one of the chefs pulled it out of the fridge in the kitchen. It was a shame because the flavors were there.
Grilled Prawns
It’s grilled prawns.
Lemon Custard Creme Brulee
Tasted good. The chef will come and caramelize it for you, which was cool. Since they used a hot round skillet to caramelize, and it took a few tries to fully cover the surface, the middle part was burnt and bitter. Hopefully, they realized the trade-off between flavors and presentation/performance.

- Fact 1: Not sure if this is a fact, but you get to finish cooking your steak if you order cast iron tenderloin. Hence, “Hands-on” Steak.

The Menu
It has light underneath, which was cool.
